Sardinia - The Italy Less Traveled
To be honest, I was pretty disappointed and dejected with my images from this recent Sardinia/Sardegna trip. As I assessed the trip, I think my problem was underestimating travel time...from Vegas, a person really needs to allocate 3 days each way....My trip was only 9 days which means I effectively only had 3 days to cover 600 miles of unfamiliar territory let alone spotty weather. I produce a calendar every year and as I did my layup and pre-press I just was not excited about the product. BUT, then even though I would prefer stellar images, I converted everything to a faux watercolor like this image. Now for my clients, it will be acceptable. Of course I hate to have to basically Photoshop everything but, like this images, my audience will now be able to conjure up their own ideas of Italy and Sardinia. Capsule Svizzera organicseoz.com

Val di Susa, Sacra San Michele (Torino, Italia)
La Val di Susa és una vall alpina situada a la part occidental del Piemont, a l'oest de Torí, limitant amb França a l'oest. encara que pertany íntegrament a la conca del riu Po, i per tant a la regió geogràfica italiana, alguns sectors de les seves altes valls laterals formen part políticament de la República Francesa arran dels tractats de pau de 1947.
Amb una longitud de 80 quilòmetres, és la vall més gran del Piemont. Pren el nom de l'antiga ciutat de Susa, situada en una posició cèntrica. La vall, disposada longitudinalment, és travessada pel riu Dora Riparia, de 125 quilòmetres de longitud i afluent per l'esquerra del Po. Està tocat tant pels Alps Cottians (a la dreta del Dora i el Cenischia ) com pels Alps Graians (a l'esquerra dels mateixos cursos d'aigua). Els rierols Dora di Bardonecchia i Cenischia formen dues valls importants que es bifurquen de la principal.
L'origen de la Vall de Susa s'ha de buscar fa entre 40 i 25 milions d'anys, durant una fase del procés d'orogènia alpina. A l'esquerra orogràfica de la vall baixa i fins a Moncenisio es poden trobar calcàries, gneis, serpentines, micasquistes i calcàries. El massís d'Ambin està format per roques cristal·lines i mica esquists. A la vall alta hi ha calcàries, quarsites, calcàries i de vegades gresos.
A la dreta orogràfica des de Rivoli fins als estanys d'Avigliana hi ha algunes formacions morreniques. Des d'Avigliana fins a San Giorio es troben gneiss i serpentines. El massís de l'Orsiera - Rocciavrè està format per gneis i mica esquists. Finalment, a la vall alta hi ha calcàries, serpentines i calcàries.
La Val di Susa, en comparació amb les altres valls frontereres entre Itàlia i França, és la que té els passos alpins més fàcils situats a cotes més baixes. Des de l'antiguitat els seus passos han permès intercanvis de persones i mercaderies.
